Like the Bay of Islands Centre (for Sustainable Rural Economic Development), the Stone Soup Festival depends entirely on volunteers. The demographics of our region are such that the pool of resident potential volunteer helpers is rather limited. We therefore depend on your help, even if you live some distance away.

We seriously need help from volunteers in the weeks & months before the festival as well as during the four days of the festival. Only with your help can we get everything ready in time.

If you can contribute tools, materials or equipment,
please take a look at our

wish list.

If you can contribute a few hours of your time, either before or during the event, please take a look at our
volunteer page.

If you can contribute funds or services for marketing, communications, transportation, etc.,
please consider becoming a

sponsor.

Here are some of the jobs where we need lots of help in the days leading up to the festival. Please come early and bring your skills (tools would be nice) or just a willing hand.

  • Staging (Main Stage - Forge Field, Entrance Stage - Parker's Loop, Song Circle Stage - Prospector's Field) - here we need help with some carpentry work. If you can improvise with the design and the materials at hand - all the better.

  • Display & Cooking Areas. Here we need help to build simple pole fences to mark off the areas.

  • Access, Traffic Flow. Here we need help to make and install signs and markers to separate public from private areas.

  • Power/Audio, Grounds Lighting. Help us string the wires, mount lights, etc. No electrical experience required.

  • Flags and signs - Help us mount the poles and posts for flags and signs.

  • Grounds Preparation - Help us clean up, move brush, prepare camp sites. Build a solar shower.

During the Festival:
Here are some of the things we need help with during the festival. If you have a few hours to contribute, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

  • Traffic Control - Help us direct visitors to parking and the location of events.
  • Food assistants - Help us keep the food areas supplied and clean.
  • Grounds assistants - Help us keep the grounds safe, make small repairs where needed.
