The Stone Soup Festival
2003 was an excellent example of the true meaning of Stone
Soup.
We consider the event a huge success, not in monetary reward certainly, but in terms of the tremendous support we had from others", says Jurgen Teuwen, Chair of the non-profit Bay of Islands Centre Association. The rain and power outages over Saturday and early Sunday presented a challenge to the team of 30+ core volunteers working at the Trail Stop entrance or at the Stone Soup Cafe, where most of the die-hard campers and music fans gathered to await the sun. Gail Martin, Co-coordinator for the 2nd Year event states that "Festival volunteers pulled together in a real team effort by tarping the stage, carrying water to the Cafe, setting up propane stoves and in general keeping the soup pot hot, so to speak. All in all, more than 150 individuals contributed to the effort. Like the Stone Soup story itself, the event was a genuine demonstration of 'the power of pooled resources'.
