Dear Friend of Bay of Islands,
I think you will agree that the challenges we face
today are pretty staggering.
On too many fronts we are going backwards. Global warming.
The widening gap between the rich and poor. Rolling
back of environmental laws.
Large-scale industrial harvesting of our forests and
oceans. Big multinational box stores stealing livelihoods
from our small rural businesses. Environmental disasters
and other threats to our health and safety lurk around
every corner.

Bay of Islands Center is committed to finding ways
to keep moving forward. To help the common people -
you and your children and grandchildren - to make a
smooth transition to a sustainable future. To implement
educational programs and innovative projects at the
Center and by so doing, discover the best practices
and appropriate technologies
- ways for humanity to survive in tomorrow's world of
a changing global climate and the radical
transformation of our oil dependent economies.

Now, Bay of Islands Center offers soft
landings for those who wish to be proactive and
help us find ways to build sustainable communities in
rural Nova Scotia. Communities comprised of artisans
and trades people working in low-impact
forestry, farming and small scale industry.
Our support is growing - in Europe and the US, in the
rest of Canada. We know from your response to our work
that we are on the right track.
But now, Bay of Islands needs your help.
We are proud of what we've accomplished over the past
four years with a shoestring budget and an amazing group
of volunteers. But our less-than-aggressive fundraising
hasn't kept pace with our overhead. We've realized that
we need to ask our friends and readers for help more
frequently. We don't ask for your help often but we
need your help now.
Until now, our funding has come 100% from the members
of our board and visitors to the Center. This has stretched
our resources past their limits and we now need help
from you, our website readers. No pop-up ads. No large
corporate sponsors. No selling or renting of our mailing
lists. We depend on you.
We need to raise $25,000 to make it through the coming
six months and to continue the work at the Center. Can
we count on your help?
